3 Back Strengthening Exercises That ERASE Pain & FIX Posture

Home News & Videos 3 Back Strengthening Exercises That ERASE Pain & FIX Posture

If your back has been feeling off, these are the three back strengthening exercises our physical therapists come back to time and time again.

  • Bridges: Bridges activate the glutes and lower back muscles which tend to shut down when you've sat or made no movement for prolonged periods of time. Once fired up, these lower body muscles take a significant amount of strain off the spine which can help restore the natural movement patterns your back was built for.

  • Planks: Planks build the deep core stability that you spine depends on in order for it to stay properly aligned. Without that foundation, your posture breaks down, your back fatigues faster, and the risk of injury during training or daily activity goes up significantly.

  • Bird Dogs: Bird Dogs are one of the most underrated back strengthening exercises out there. They teach your core and spine to work together and to stay stable while the rest of your body is in motion. A skill that, when built up over time, can remove strain, improve posture and lower the risk of a spine related injury Add these three to your weekly routine and give your back the support system it deserves.

If you find that three exercises still haven't erased your pain or improved your posture, our team is here to help. At JAG Physical Therapy, our NJ, NY & PA teams go under the surface to get to know you and the pain you're experiencing. In doing so, they're able to build a recovery plan around your pain, your lifestyle and your goals. To learn more, book an appointment at a JAG near you.
